In Doom, players assume the role of an unnamed space marine, who became popularly known as 'Doomguy', fighting his way through hordes of invading demons from Hell. (Doom on a printer?) This version for classic Macs was developed by Lion Entertainment in 1995.
In addition to popularizing the FPS genre, it pioneered immersive 3D graphics, networked multiplayer gaming, and support for customized additions and modifications via packaged files in a data archive known as 'WADs' It was well received and has been ported to everything with a CPU in it, regardless of how ridiculous it sounds. Doom is a 1993 sci-fi horror first-person shooter developed originally by id Software for NeXTSTEP then later released to the public for MS-DOS.
